Here at CEI, we understand that company culture and creating a positive workplace is the key to a successful business. Because our commitment to our employees is so important, we are proud to be first in the 2020 Best Places to Work by Triangle Business Journal.
How Winners Are Chosen
Each year, Triangle Business Journal chooses 50 winners across several categories, divided by the size of the company (CEI is considered a medium-size business). Beginning early in the year, they open up nominations for businesses, with the eligibility requirements including size – the company must have at least 10 Triangle-located employees, and location – the business must operate in at least one of the 16 counties that make up the Triangle.
Once a workplace is nominated, the company will receive a link to an employee survey website that consists of 30 questions. After the employees complete the anonymous survey, the scores are tabulated across six categories:
- Communication and resources
- Manager effectiveness
- Personal engagement
- Team dynamics
- Trust in leadership
- Individual needs
Final results are tabulated by Quantum Workplace, who created and hosted the survey, and the businesses with the highest scores are named as a Best Place to Work.
Major Accomplishments at CEI
At CEI, we were named the best place to work among the medium-sized business group, and part of what put us at the top spot were:
- We did not increase employee health care costs;
- No cuts in benefits
- Maintained full salaries for all full-time employees, even through the challenges of the COVID-19 shutdowns;
- Expanded remote policies to ensure the safety of our team..
Additionally, we believe morale is key to success, which is why we offer some unique opportunities and perks, such as creating events to volunteer in the community, catered lunches and business-hour team activities. This year, we also wanted to offer our employees more flexibility and reduce their hourly work schedule without reducing pay and benefits. We created a rotating four-day work week schedule so everyone gets an extra day offer per week without it affecting their PTO.
